Self-Ligating Braces

Self-Ligating Braces

Creating a beautiful, healthy smile is possible with self-ligating braces. Similar to traditional metal braces, this orthodontic treatment option offers a more subtle and comfortable solution for patients. Mik Orthodontics can help you determine if self-ligating braces are right for you.

Who’s a Good Fit for Self-Ligating Braces?

Because of how similar they are to traditional metal braces, most individuals who are good candidates for metal braces are a good fit for self-ligating braces.

From crooked to crowded teeth, these braces can correct both cosmetic and orthodontic problems. They can also help with bite irregularities like an overbite, underbite or crossbite. Patients of all ages can wear self-litigating braces, making them a versatile and effective treatment solution.

Advantages of Self-Ligating Braces

No matter the cosmetic or orthodontic issue you want to correct, you’ll experience many advantages with self-ligating braces:

  • Less noticeable design: Because the brackets are smaller, these braces are more discreet than traditional metal brackets. They also come in a ceramic style, which blends with your teeth’s natural color for a less noticeable look.
  • Comfortable positioning: With their sliding mechanism, these braces can move around freely, reducing some of the pressure on your teeth. They also don’t rely on ties and bands or palatal expanders, offering a more comfortable experience from start to finish.
  • Improved care: Their smaller size and simplistic design make self-ligating braces easier to care for and clean.
  • Faster treatment time: These braces are designed to realign your teeth faster. You can achieve your new smile in less time than other treatment options.

Our Treatments

At Mik Orthodontics, we offer two types of self-ligating brackets — passive and active.

Passive brackets, often used early on during treatment, encourage the teeth to start gradually moving into position. These brackets are made with a smaller archwire, making it easy for the teeth to move freely during treatment.

Active brackets deliver more pressure and control. With the thicker archwire, these strong brackets move the teeth into place more efficiently.

Cost of Braces

You can expect to pay around the same amount for self-ligating braces as you would for metal braces. Depending on your orthodontic problem’s severity and your individual needs, the amount can vary.

Here at Mik Orthodontics, we offer all our patients a consultation before beginning treatment. During this time, you’ll learn more about the cost of self-ligating braces as well as your insurance options and payment plans.
